The Utah football program has received a lot of praise this offseason with a number of key starters returning from a team that won the Pac-12 South title last year.
During Pac-12 media days last month, the Utes were not only picked to repeat as South champs, but also win to win the program’s first Pac-12 Championship.
Those high expectations are why the Utes find themselves ranked No. 14 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll that was released on Monday. The ranking is the program’s highest ranking in August and is a big acknowledgement of how far the program has come and where the program sits among the college football powers.
Monday’s ranking is also just the third time in program history that the Utes have made the preseason AP Top 25 poll, with 2011 being the latest until now.
Year | Rank | Final record | Final AP rank |
---|---|---|---|
2004 | No. 20 | 12-0 | No. 4 |
2009 | No. 19 | 10-3 | No. 18 |
2019 | No. 14 | TBD | TBD |
Should Ute fans be “drinking the Kool-Aid” or should they be ignoring all the preseason hype to avoid being letdown? Considering the table above — which outlines what Utah has done with its preseason rankings — Ute fans should be confident that Kyle Whittingham will be able to deliver once again.
What do you think of the Utes’ ranking?
